How to Prepare for Your First Acupuncture Treatment
Welcome to Boost Acupuncture. We are delighted to work with you and hope you have a pleasant experience.
Your comfort and safety are of great concern. Please let me know what I can do to make you comfortable. Acupuncture need not be scarey and it shouldn't hurt. Rather, acupuncture treatments should help you relax and unwind.
Please don’t hesitate to ask questions or to let me know if you don’t understand the answer. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) looks at the body differently than Western Medicine, however, I will seek to provide explanations in terms we understand in the West combined with concepts relevant to TCM.
PLEASE DOWNLOAD AND COMPLETE THE FORMS (right side of page) BEFORE your appointment. If you forget, please arrive 15-20 minutes early to complete the paperwork.
PLEASE WEAR COMFORTABLE LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING that can easily be rolled up above the knees, elbows, and abdomen. You will probably remain dressed during a treatment, but depending upon the issue being addressed, you may be required to remove some articles of clothing. We have sheets to cover the body.
DO NOT COME TO A TREATMENT OVERLY FULL OR OVERLY HUNGRY.
If you are coming for a pain condition, IF POSSIBLE, PLEASE DO NOT TAKE PAIN MEDICATION BEFORE YOUR TREATMENT. We want to see your pain level decrease WHILE you are being treated and we can better determine the efficacy of the treatment if you are not “under the influence”, so to speak. HOWEVER, please do not make yourself suffer needlessly.
Occasionally, a person may feel lightheaded after a treatment. This is a result of your body’s energies readjusting. You will return to normal within a few minutes. You can wait for this to pass in the treatment or waiting room.
Most people find their acupuncture treatments very relaxing and enjoyable. I look forward to working with you soon.
